Position Description
Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, is responsible for supervising and assisting clients with their daily needs as outlined in the person-centered plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Provide Alternative Family Living for individuals as defined by the rules and regulations set forth by the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services.

Adhere to the principles of the State Mandated Core Competency Training Curriculum.

Communicate professionally and positively with individuals, parents, caregivers visitors and other professionals.

Remain in compliance with all North Carolina State Standards.

Abide by all standards and regulations in LIFESPAN’s AFL contract agreement.

Follow oversight of LIFESPAN Qualified Professional according to the person centered plan.

Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required for this position. Some experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred. Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable and flexible to performing under moderate levels of stress when confronted with an emergency.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to operate various equipment (e.g. computers, wheel chairs, etc.) Must be able to exert up to the weight of the individual receiving services to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, reaching, fingering, stooping, etc. Will regularly lift a minimum of forty (40) pounds and be responsible for lifting the weight of the individual receiving services independently as necessary.
