Development Specialist
Location: Guilford


Position Description
Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for fundraising and building community awareness in geographical region for the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Implement fund development strategies and targets that align with corporate fund development strategic plan and LIFESPAN strategic plan.

Solicit funds for program and project support (e.g. Corporate and Community Partners) in geographical region while providing assistance throughout the LIFESPAN service footprint.

Assist with writing and submitting corporate communications relating to press releases.

Support and maintain a potential and/or current donor engagement program.

Cultivate and secure new and existing corporate and individual donations, sponsorships, volunteer groups and projects.

Manage and maintain a fundraising budget with targeted focus on fiscal responsibility with fund raising costs for special events.

Create, manage, and follow-up on faith and civic campaigns and employee campaigns.



Create, implement, and maintain a volunteer program throughout the designated geographical region as needed.

Develop and cultivate volunteers and increase corporate donations.

Organize and plan The Dandelion Walk and Greensboro Philanthropy Luncheon and other events as needed to ensure fundraising goals are met.

Maintain and keep accurate records that account for all monetary donations and submit to Development Coordinator within 24 hours of receipt.

Prepare and present to Director of Development weekly progress reports.

Conduct regular research for ongoing and future donor opportunities.

Participate as a team member with the Fund Development department in setting and implementing strategic goals and initiatives.

Follow the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics and Donor By-Laws at all times.

Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from four year college or university and a minimum of two years of related experience in a fund development office environment.


Computer Skills
Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Office 2010, web-based research and knowledge/experience in Raiser’s Edge fundraising software preferred. Raisers Edge, Adobe Creative Suites

Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, proposals, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



Reasoning Skills
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Skills and Abilities
Must have outstanding proofreading and editing skills.

Reliable transportation and travel 25% of the time is required.
